Today marks the opening in Brooklyn of Dekalb Market, “a collection of food, clothing and other retailers” housed in 22 decommissioned shipping containers.
The project — the “first permanent American installation” by UK-based developer Urban Space — features vegetable gardens maintained by various community groups, a kitchen, classroom, and covered area with picnic tables.
